Dreaming the Golden State

Dreaming the Golden State with The California Report Magazine

On the frontier of the American imagination, California has always represented a place for expansion and reinvention. But what does the California Dream look and feel like today? Who gets to define it? Who gets to dream it? With nearly 40 million residents there are endless individual variations, but they are unified by a common, persistent yearning for some vision of a better life on the horizon.

The California Report Magazine presented an evening of personal storytelling, live music, and movement at San Francisco’s Brava Theater, showcasing the rich variety, passion, and depth that animates all California dreamers. Featuring stories by journalists April Dembosky, Peter Gilstrap, Marisol Medina-Cadena, Pendarvis Harshaw, Vanessa Rancaño, and host Sasha Khokha, poetry by The Poetry Store’s Silvi Alcivar, performances by dancer My-Linh Le and R&B singer Michael Marshall, and live epistolary readings by California residents about their own lived pursuits of golden opportunity.

Your state, your dreams -- brought to poignant life onstage.
