The Political Mind of Jerry Brown

California Governor Jerry Brown on the Future of Democratic Politics

After twelve campaigns and twenty-four years in statewide office, former California Governor Jerry Brown, has plenty of lessons to share on politics and governance. Governor Brown joined host Scott Shafer (KQED’s Political Breakdown) for a live conversation onstage at San Francisco’s Herbst Theater to discuss his extraordinary life in California politics, the lessons he's learned in office, and the wisdom he had offer for the 2020 election year.

The Political Mind of Jerry Brown is a radio and podcast documentary series that highlights exclusive conversations with Jerry Brown, alongside other interviews and a wealth of archival tape. Shafer gives listeners a front-row seat into Brown’s political mind, shaped by the last seven decades of California and U.S. politics.

This project was made possible in part with support from California Humanities, a non-profit partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Created in collaboration with the Oral History Center at the Bancroft Library at University of California, Berkeley.
